Also that there were multiple police injuries, including two officers hospitalized.

Multiple firearms confiscated, some molotov cocktails, two pipe bombs.

Serious credit to the photographers who, knowing how these neonazis hate those in the media and knowing the threat they were facing, continued to document the travesty, who continued to make it clear to the world what was happening with images like this - this was taken by an AP photographer, though I don't know more than that about who took it.

It’s quite amazing how people attending a Trump rally, that Trump addressed and asked to March on the Capitol, and were then praised by Trump, and were interviewed afterwards saying they were proud of what they’d done, are now AntiFa. Still, maybe that association might make others not want to take part in future?

I'm not sure - I've not seen any evidence that the BLM protests generated any kind of spike, and more that a few people yesterday were wearing some kind of masks - albeit for different reasons

Members of Congress and staff got crowded together in small rooms. Some Democrats left these safe areas because Republicans were refusing to wear masks.

The woman who got shot is being called a patriot and a martyr in the same tweet as a claim that the rioters were Antifa. I can only assume that these people are on crack.

The BBC had one Repug strategist on last night who, while he did condemn the violence, wanted everyone to appreciate this was very much a "blame on both sides" scenario.

Because yes on the one hand the Republicans have enabled and encouraged far-right lunatics to reject the democratic process and even after the tediously predictable events of yesterday a third of them continue to support a violent coup but on the other hand the Democrats won the election fair and square by a landslide so in many ways they are equally culpable.

I mean just look how the Democrats responded to the election results in 2000 and 2016, it was exactly the same!

I get the impression that they sincerely believed that the police and military would join them in kicking out the corrupt congress and installing Trump as rightful president. Must have been disappointing when it didn't have a movie script ending.

The USA is fortunate* that the insurrectionists were so pathetic. Imagine what would have happened if they were properly organised and knew what they were doing.

Tut, tut haven't a thousand chin-stroking Guardian articles taught us that we shouldn't call out racists fuckwits on their racism and f.ckwittery.

No they should be pandered to and told they have legitimate greviances and that their unhinged delusions should be taken seriously and their Will must be implemented at any cost and under no circumstances should they ever be confronted..

If we do that then nothing but good things happen.
