Appreciate I'm a bit early, but regardless of the outcome of this vote, in 2028 Trump will definitely not be running. What do we reckon are the republicans' chances then? Seeing as they've remade the party in his fascist image, does the republican party get elected without Trump?
If Republicans win this election, and Trump is still alive...he'll definitely be running.

I think even this Supreme Court will struggle to come up with a reason for a third term.
But there's an ambiguity in the wording. The 22nd amendment says you can't be elected President a third term. So Trump could be elected Vice President, then hang President Vance on 20 Jan 2029 and be promoted to President.
Or somehow disrupt elections so no President is elected in 2028, just inaugurate himself for his third term and get SCOTUS to sign off.

Nobody else seems to be able to be Trump.
When they replicate his tricks it never works well. Other people look absurd and it seems to matter, Trump looks absurd and nobody cares.
It's the orange face paint I think. Trump is already maxed out on ridiculous, so nothing ever makes him more ridiculous.

The P -> VP -> P move is kind of what Putin did with Medvedev. I wonder if Trump will try the same.
Also, he's all for dynasty building and the Trump name - would he try and install Ivanka or Barron as GOP nominee in 2028? (I can't quite imagine even Trump would go for Eric or Don Jr...)

Trump could not stand being less important, so he will not agree to be VP.
Barron would not be old enough to stand as President in 2028. Don Jr would be the heir apparent, but would only be allowed to do so by Don Sr. If Don Sr was dead.

It is an emotional lizard-brain link between Trump and the MAGAs. He makes them feel things they want to feel.
If you are emotionally distressed and someone brings you comfort, you cling to that person. And it can easily become an unhealthy clinging. You can get abuse from that person yet still stay addicted to the moments that comfort your distress.
Americans seem confident on the surface and isn't a society that celebrates loving kindness. There's a lot of damage. Terrible parenting, unrealistic expectations, fear of guns and crime, debt, loss of dreams... Then along comes someone who lets them express their hatreds and also rages at society. Millions are primed to join the cult and feel great when they do so. The intellectual brain knows he's a fraud but gets overruled.
They must know they are being ridiculous when they wave flags with Trump as a saint or a muscular warrior. But that doesn't matter if waving the flag eases other miseries.
Other presidents have captured an emotional connection - JFK, Reagan, Obama. Potentially Harris is making her fans emotionally invested. Other Presidents can be liked well enough, like Biden and Bush 1&2, but don't trigger unhealthy adoration. But Trump is in a category of his own.
The Trump name doesn't do it, his kids know that. It has to be the cult leader himself.

You will see some viral clips of Trump f.cking up an interview with the NABJ (National Association of Black Journalists).
A great comment on this...
https://thehill.com/homenews/4805335-tr ... race-nabj/
Veteran GOP political pundit Scott Jennings said former President Trump made a big mistake with his remarks about Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris’s race during a gathering of Black journalists in Chicago on Wednesday.
“He did crap the bed. … The only question is whether he’s going to roll around in it or get up and change the sheets,” Jennings, a CNN contributor, said after Trump fielded questions at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention Wednesday.

Or get himself named Speaker of the House (without being elected anywhere), and the P and VP becoming unavailable. This doesn't necessarily need the GOP to win the White House...

That's the actual level of discussion on Fox News nowadays.

So by the same logic presumably women transition into men if they vote for a man?

Well, if they used to be men, their Y has become an X, so I guess in theory they'll still be an ex-Y

(Y'all know that this doesn't really work because no state in the US uses writing X's in boxes for voting, right?)

ISTR hanging Chads being a thing back in 2000. Even harsher.

Let's do the Tim(e) Wal(t)z again.

Seems like a much more astute pick than what Trump made with JD Vance.
Harris 1 - Trump 0

Most significant problem with this ticket is the apostrophe's. Harris' and Walz' pedants will struggle.
