He's getting a redo this time.

I suspect he's going to lose again.

The quote limit here is going to be a problem, which is why I took to editing out the outer quotes.

Or I guess I could up the quote limit on the forum for shiggles.

They're now talking about voting into tomorrow.

Which means McCarthy can destroy his career, and maybe the Republican Party with it, on January 6th.

BTW, if this round doesn't do it for Kev, all the historical examples that took longer are pre-civil war, with the worst examples being part of the run up to it.

At Mcarthy's current rate of vote loss, he'll have zero votes in 615.15 votes (according to the linear fit I just did).

Perhaps the Orthodox Church is right about the proper date of Xmas.

Other historical events are also acceptable.

I reckon the most apt one is the confirmation of Harold Godwinson as King of England, which led to 1066 and all that.

I think this means that Quebec is going to invade because they won't like the result.

Failed on the 10th attempt. Probably an 11th attempt in a bit.

He is Luigi Cadorna, "Hero" of the Isonzo and ICMFP.

Little injoke there for all the Great War geeks. ;)

The last time it took so long was just before the Civil War.
I'm sure we don't need to worry

If this was a password they'd be blocked by now. What a quaint system unprepared for the absurdities of the modern age.

I mean, the GOP leadership could always put up a different candidate.

or actually negotiate with the Democrats.

I think if they can't come up with someone acceptable after 10 attempts somebody else should get a go ;)

But yeah, it seems that promoting dysfunction by refusing any compromise is a modern political force that these decrepit old constitutions don't handle well.

Its kinda funny. But also messed up that a minority of folks can veto the house picking a speaker.

Not sure why I'm surprised though... minority rule is the cornerstone of republicanism.

To be fair, the same could happen in the UK. We might get a similar situation if the Tories had a slim majority but the ERG refused to back the Tory candidate.
