Two computers stolen during the insurrection, one of them used by Pelosi for presentations. No idea about how computer opsec works for members of congress, but that will be scaring the bejesus out of some folks. Serious national security risk.

Wow. Two of the rioters shaved off their beards and became totally unrecognisable. But the FBI found them anyway! This surely proves the FBI is full of the world's brilliant investigators.

Have their been any calls from Fox News or Republican Senators for rioters to surrender to their local police?

Meh. Russia already hacked everything to the core already, so it’s academic.

It’s not just the Russians though. Also there is no indication that the SolarWinds hack broke into Senate/reps/cabinet computers.

WaPo reports in some of the arrests, including this gem.
Yet another, who needed a Russian interpreter, told a judge, “I don’t know what unlawful entry you are referring to.”

A friend who lives on Capitol Hill was visited by the FBI today to look at footage from his doorbell camera. They spotted the pipe bomb suspect walking past the front of his house on Tuesday night.

Yikes. That's bl..dy scary for your friend, bolo.
You know, it somewhat amazes me that none of the rabble seem to have shot at anyone. At least, I haven't seen any reports of shots fired except by the secret service guys. And yet some of the rabble were armed, and there was that guy they caught with the cooler full of Molotov cocktails. Was that just good luck I wonder, or did the police do a damn good job of coralling them/descalating/arresting anyone who was actually dangerous.
And at least the idiots who didn't get arrested on the day are making themselves super easy to track down.

Sounds like the FBI are going after these people quite thoroughly. I hope they get enough of them and enough intelligence to prevent any further successful attacks.

This video is pretty disturbing. I imagine there’s a lot more the public aren’t being shown:

I can't help wondering what would have happened if Trump had in fact marched with the insurrectionists and ordered the cops to stand down or even assist in apprehending his enemies. Illegal orders to be sure but what would the cops getting them direct from the President in a stress situation do?
If Trump wasn't a coward this coup could have succeeded.

I'm not sure Ziptie guy even knows how those things work. He did have his mother along to help him.

Not only an illegal order, but an order from someone not in their chain of command. The Capitol Police are part of the legislative branch, so they are not supposed to take orders from the President even if the orders are completely legal. Or maybe a better way to say it is that no orders from the President to the Capitol Police are legal orders.
Which admittedly doesn't completely answer the question of what would have happened.

I read that, but no, it is not a good thread.
I watched the speech while it was happening. The sentences extracted in the thread are out of context and out of balance. Much of the speech was deadly dull teleprompter reading, swamping the bits that were silly and the bits calling for a coup. Seth has written far more "interpretation" of Trump's words than Trump's actual words.
My comments that are now at the start of this thread are a better depiction. Obviously he was calling for the crowd to march on the Capitol and intimidate Congress, but everyone knew that in advance. What's more interesting was his pessimistic words - he knew it would failed so ranted about other stuff for fun.

Does the context of Trump's words actually matter that much? How many Trumpists will listen to the whole thing, versus twitter parler-friendly snippets?

It potentially matters for building a criminal case, showing intent and mindset.
Not that you'd go _that_ deep into it there.
