Yeah, 'cos the Brexit party would have got a deal with no transition period...
He should get a giant banner saying "Mission Accomplished" for a photo op on one of our aircraft carriers. That could be the defining image of how he got Brexit done.TopBadger wrote: Thu Jan 23, 2020 10:43 am ^ Looking forward to the OED extending it's definition of a moron.
Still - apparently we've crossed the Brexit finish line now![]()
I guess it can't hurt to make some use of the carrier before the planes arrive...Martin Y wrote: Thu Jan 23, 2020 12:12 pmHe should get a giant banner saying "Mission Accomplished" for a photo op on one of our aircraft carriers. ...prohibiting any UK Minister from agreeing to an extension of the transition or implementation period in the Joint Committee (new clause 33)
I'll agree itGeenDienst wrote: Thu Jan 23, 2020 3:35 pm Bill got royal assent now, and it's law. Doesn't change anything, I know, but it's still sh.t.
IIRC, this also means crashing out at the end of 2020 is also the default in law. Says here it has a clause:

Nope, because Parliament could change the law again.Bird on a Fire wrote: Thu Jan 23, 2020 8:44 pm Does that not fall foul of "parliament cannot bind itself?"
Would be an interesting constitutional issue, on an alternative timeline where it could actually arise.
We'll be in a pub with our astronomy group consoling each other - we did the same on the evening of 24th June 2016.GeenDienst wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2020 2:53 am So where will you be 23:00 on Jan 31? This is like new year's eve, only even more depressing.
Guessing I won't be in Wetherspoons, probably.

Yeah, it's all those bits that return out to be faaaaar more complicated than you realise and have all sorts of knock-on effects. That and the fact that Boris's "easy" NI solution will hang around like nuclear waste.plodder wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2020 6:39 pmWow.Gfamily wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2020 2:21 pm What happens next - analysis by Ian Dunt

Be interesting to see how Cummings copes with that.lpm wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2020 11:32 pm ...but Johnson revealed in the autumn that he's a terrible negotiator who always folds. He'll agree to the EU's offer then lie about it.
The article is hysterical drivel. The writing style is breathlessly adolescent.plodder wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2020 6:39 pmWow.Gfamily wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2020 2:21 pm What happens next - analysis by Ian Dunt

Reassure us that stuff will all be fixed by December.
