I'm sure there are good lengthy debates to be had (and have already been had) about the environmental benefits and drawbacks, but it *is* costing a lot and a lot of the same people who would like better elder care are also not fans of HS2.

It certainly is costing a lot, in total, across all phases, when delivered in full, over the next 15ish years, but when annualised the remaining (capital) cost is less than the annual variation in the (operational) budget of the NHS. It wouldn't really make much of a difference.

Would you agree that, in principle, there may be areas outside of the NHS and the social welfare safety net where cuts could be made in order to increase funding in those places?

I see that some still believe that it's economically irrelevant what money is spent on as long as it's circulating, yes.

To be fair to sheldrake, he has come round to the idea that MegaCorps and billionaires should pay their fair share of taxes ie a percentage not less than that paid by the proles.

I always thought that, I used to just think the way to achieve it was to massively drop the proles' taxes.
