Interesting interview footage of Dorries today

She's (literally not metaphorically) swaying all over the place in it.

Johnson's "Trust me, I'll change" plea was that of a serially philandering husband to his betrayed wife, something with which he is very familiar.

Though he knows, or has calculated, that in large part the rest of the Tories' fortunes are tied to his own from his first denials and their support. The longer they cling to him the more they will be marked by that association and I think he's thinking that for their own political survival, they'll not get rid of him.

Yup.

I think thid is a turning point though. Before, they could tell the voters they didn't know what he was. And sufficient numbers of voters thought he was doing his best.

Now he's clearly lying and if the stay with him, they're going to be remembered for that.

Johnson's wrongdoing is now public knowledge in a way that it wasn't even in December.

Where does this come from?
Starting from the famous quote:
If you give me six lines written by the hand of the most honest of men, I will find something in them which will hang him.
though it was not actually said by Cardinal Richelieu. And proceeding via Operation Spanner in the UK. The police are not your friends. You have not popped around for a nice chat. Anything you say may be used in evidence against you - and not necessarily with regard to the crime they are currently investigating.

I take that to mean that full details of the lesser four might be taken by some as evidence that the other 12 were of a similar nature - only slightly more severe, and that therefore to give full details would give a false impression.

Is there a history of Huntington’s disease in her family?
Looking at many recent interviews she has some odd movements.

Looking shifty, like literally, maybe she is just fidgeting as she is very uncomfortable having to publicly defend Johnson.

Of course the institutionally corrupt Met Police has put Sajid David's brother in charge of their "investigation".

From the Guardian liveblog:
Sir Lindsay Hoyle, the Speaker, also told MPs that he was concerned about what was happening to the reputation of parliament. Just after he reprimanded Boris Johnson for his anti-Starmer Jimmy Savile smear (see 12.49pm), Hoyle said people assumed he had a power to police what gets said in the chamber that he does not possess. He told MPs:

"Unfortunately the public out there think I’ve got this magic power. You give me the power. If you’re not happy with the power I’ve got, it’s in your hands to change it."

As Speaker, Hoyle has to enforce Erskine May, the parliamentary rulebook, which bans MPs from using unparliamentary language. Calling another MP a liar is one example.

But the Speaker does not have the power to stop MPs saying things that are untrue. And although ministers who do mislead the Commons are expected to correct the record, the Speaker has no power to compel them to do so.

Perhaps your posts are causing the resignations!

Post MOAR, see what happens, a decent cat-meme thread could have Johnson gone by teatime! ;)

It’s OK everyone Disgraced Former Defence Secretary Liam Fox has come out on in Johnson’s defence.

I think I, like most people, was reserving judgement until we had heard the opinion of a man whose sole contribution to public life was to be forced to resign due to corruption over a decade ago, he really is the moral keystone of our times.

His considered opinion is we shouldn’t judge the suitability to lead of a PM, who repeatedly and unashamedly breaks his own public health rules during a deadly global pandemic and then repeatedly lies in Parliament about it, until the Met belatedly and reluctantly decide whether his open rule-breaking technically breached the threshold to prosecute or not. This apparently is “focussing on the Big Picture”.

Frankly I find it baffling that Google search autocompletes the way it does as soon as you type “disgraced fo-“. :?

"Disgraced former defence minister" comes second for me after "disgraced football players". I also get "disgraced fox news host" further down the list.

Meanwhile observers on the ground say a camera lowered down a deep, dark, slime-filled hole have caught distant sight of Nadine Dorries who was said to be in good spirits and asking for a new spade as the one she had been using had snapped.

The Minister for Culture Wars is thought to have began digging the hole over Christmas and been working on it ever since though her motivations remain baffling.

The MP's grasp of factual, reality-based arguments are legendary and she went on to demonstrate this further.
Dorries insisted that 97% of Tory MPs back the prime minister
The percentage of Tory MPs who have lodged letters of no confidence is thought to be around 10% and the 15% threshold is expected to be reached next week.
Dorries insisted that “the prime minister has told the truth.
In other news it was revealed today that there is a photo of the prime minister drinking a can of beer at one of the parties he said hadn't happened and didn't know about
She suggested remainers are plotting against the prime minister.

She said: “There are a small number of voices, whether they are people who were ardent supporters of remain, who see this as their last opportunity to reverse Brexit.”
MPs who have called on Johnson to go include David Davies, Nick Gibb, Aaron Bell ...

Not to mention preventing Brexit at this point would require access to some sort of Tardis.

Sadly even if an anvil was dropped on him tomorrow in finest Loony Tunes style, Brexit can no longer be reversed that easily and Rejoin is a long, painful but inevitable journey.
