Masks are about control

A theme I’ve seen in local Facebook groups is that masks are about control. Presumably control of us by the government. I have to wonder if that’s true then why do bank robbers wear masks?

What do they imagine the government achieves by getting us to wear masks?

It trains us to be obedient so that we are more likely to hand over our first born when they ask. Or accept nanobots implanted in our brains.

Given that mask wearing makes facial recognition so much harder, you'd think they'd welcome them.

After all, it's not like we have to follow any other rules set by government

We keep being promised these nanobots, and nothing ever happens. If I had a nanobot implanted in my brain, I'd probably remember where I'd put my glasses, and what day the bins are supposed to go out. But the mind-control thing doesn't seem to be moving any faster than any other public sector IT project.

And if I had a nanobot in my brain I'd probably stop confusing the edit button with the quote button and making duplicate posts!

Or even triplicate posts. Maybe I have got a nanobot in my brain, but it was designed by Dido Harding.

Maybe it was designed by the lady whose AI came up with the user status names.

Are these posts from the same people who have fought for the right to wear masks in public spaces and during protests? E.g. to avoid CCTV facial recognition technology?

It's just people who naturally complain about being told to do something.

Have you asked their views on how the government insists we all drive on the left/right* hand side of the road? (*Delete as appropriate.)

Or that Donald Trump/Nigel Farage wears clothes in public?

Would you rather that they didn't?

Precisely my point.

If I can convince myself that masks are about the government wanting to control people, that makes me feel more important. To learn that the government definitely wants to harvest my brain, when all my life everyone else has told me that my brain does not, shall we say, command much interest on the second-hand market, is a validation of my specialness.

What I don't understand at all is rules preventing the wearing of a mask.

It’s because it wouldn’t be right to do anything that might suggest schools might be a high risk area for covid spread. Schools are covid safe.

It just means that sometimes masks are about control. As with laws against face coverings which are motivated by an anti-Islamic sentiment.

For some reason there's lots of people who instinctively realise that, and then vastly extrapolate it to think it means that advocacy of wearing masks for health purposes is the same.

Was the group called "Hot Gimps in Your Local Area"?

You're seeing that ad because of your personal search history #selfown

France only recently brought in laws banning full face coverings. The publicity campaign saying "La République se vit à visage découvert" has been a bit quiet this year.
