Boulder shooting

I've just got off the phone to a good friend who has just found out that her son was in the King Soopers in Boulder when the shooting happened. She was slightly hysterical, obviously, but thankfully he's OK. She's not had a chance to speak to him properly yet, but she has talked to his girlfriends family and they are both OK but being treated for shock. His girlfriends brother was shot dead in the Aurora cinema shooting a few years ago.

What the hell is the matter with the USA?

Hell's teeth!

Saw the headlines this morning. One thing that is really grim about this is that Boulder had attempted to put in barriers to assault rifle ownership - the law they passed was challenged in court by two Boulder residents, a local gun shop and the Colorado State Shooting Association and got struck down just 10 days ago with police being told not to enforce it. The NRA made a big thing about its lobbying arm helping to support the action to get rid of the law. Well done them

Second thought - you've now got a lot of riled up, conspiracy theory believing Trump-supporters... that may be tooled-up and on edge and don't require much to send them over that edge. But as yet there's no indication on motive.

‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens

Seventeenth outing for The Onion's headline, according to its Wiki page.

Second time in just a week, FFS.

The Atlanta one didn't even get its own thread (unless I missed it) and it was so apparently un-newsworthy that the first I knew about it was John Oliver's show*. :|

We discussed - too briefly - the Atlanta shooting in this thread.

They also shot the first policeman on the scene, so the good guy with the gun didn't help

What I find amazing is that I've actually been in that King Soopers and they sold ammunition (not sure if that is still the case) and I could have bought some, but I would have needed ID as I'm a brit. However, the liquor store up the road wouldn't sell me cigarette papers without tobacco as it was probably too dangerous.

So thoughtful
But the Colorado State Shooting Association, one of the plaintiffs that sued Boulder over the assault weapons ban, rejected that sentiment, arguing in a statement that “emotional sensationalism” about gun laws would cloud remembrance of the victims.
