"DNA theft"

Apparently the reason Putin and Macron were at opposite ends of that long table the other day was that Macron refused to let the Russians test him for Covid, so Putin wanted to keep his distance.

And the reason he refused is apparently his doctors were against it, with the worry that the Russians would steal his DNA. But why might they want his DNA, and anyway is it really that difficult to get someone's DNA by some other means?

I think you’ll find this was explained in a recent documentary

Conceivably they might find some genetic disease or condition they could use for blackmail? Dunno what, so it seems a stretch.

Probably not*, but it would be hard to get a sample without risk of contamination.

*I'm certain the Russians have access to superintelligent talking gerbils.

Maybe to uncover or fake evidence that a Western European leader has an uncertain number of potential offspring - and paternal obligations?

That would surely lead to his resignation - right? :)

Given recent history I wonder whether it's less to do with suspicion of DNA theft and more to do with not wanting to stick something up your nose or in your throat that might be covered in something nasty. Let's face it the Russian government seems rather keen on exposing people to noxious things

But the French might not have wanted to say that publically

Yeah. Would you rub something given to you by the Russian government on a sensitive part of your body?

Depending on what sensitive part you're referring to - Boris might!

I had certain allegations about Trump in mind...

She'd certainly get some of my DNA.
