An as yet unamed tory MP has been arrested for various sexual crimes, including rape. The incidents happened between 2002 and 2009.

Several outlets have named one of the three Tory MPs in their 50s who were first elected in 2001, and who weren't in the house today. I will not do so here until a reliable outlet does.

First elected in 2001 - I think that is an inference from the dates of the offences, which were not stated to be related to parliament, so could be a red herring.

I'm getting the impression that the press know exactly who it is, but can't release a name yet. We will find out who it is soon enough.

Mostly this just makes me think that the houses of parliament are an even worse place than I thought they were already, which is probably unfair on most of the people who work there.

No-one is making light of rape or assault. Far from it. But those who want to read something into a comment will contrive to do so whatever. They are professional offence takers.
