Ryan Walters is the elected Superintendent of Public Instruction in Oklahoma. This means he is the chief executive officer for the Oklahoma State Department of Education and the president of the Oklahoma State Board of Education.

He has ordered schools (NBC news) to have a bible in every classroom, and

to incorporate the Bible as part of the curricula in grades five through 12. Schools are instructed to refer to the Bible and the Ten Commandments for their “substantial influence on our nation’s founders and the foundational principles of our Constitution.” ...“Immediate and strict compliance is expected...”

The state Attorney General said, in a statement, black is white:

This decision is a tremendous victory for religious liberty. ... The framers of the U.S. Constitution and those who drafted Oklahoma’s Constitution clearly understood how best to protect religious freedom: by preventing the State from sponsoring any religion at all.

Several states are trying on the compulsory bible stuff, and more will likely follow suit. A very clear decision by the Supreme Court in 1980, even though then with a conservative lean, ought to make this stuff so untenable that even lower courts should snuff it out. But such is the political nature of the courts in the US these days, probably they won't. And if the 1980 Supreme Court was conservative, today's is something else. It could well repeal the first part of First Amendment, for the constitution means whatever the Supreme Court says it means, as we were reminded just recently.
