As revealed by Yvette Cooper, making the Tory front bench squirm like naughty schoolchildren. Some representative quotes for those who prefer to read here.

I think the new government have started very cannily. Create a few soundbites ("Asylum hotel California") and some memories ("Where were you when you heard that Rwanda was going to cost half the police budget?"). Things they can bash the Tories with when things are looking tough, a bit like how the Tories wheeled out the Winter of Discontent well into the 1990s.

The govt has cancelled the Bibby Stockholm Barge, once the current annual contract expires in January. The annual renewal cost is apparently £20m, with a capacity of 500. So that's £40,000 per person per year. The barge was intended to "save money". If you just gave them some money and said go look after yourself, that could be done for much less than £40k per person per year.
