Stripped of all titles except Prince- will that happen next? Charles could decree it.

I read it would need an act of parliament. Charles did as much as he could without making a big fuss about it.

Andrew was born a prince, at least in a colloquial sense. I'm not aware he was specifically awarded it as a title at any point in time. He previously had the title HRH stripped from him, which is pretty close to turning "Prince" into "prince", a mere fact rather than a title.

He reminds me rather of a distant cousin of mine, who was his rich parent's golden child, a handsome and charming man and similarly caused nothing but trouble. He was eventually declared bankrupt.

Recent editions of the Spitting Image online podcast presented by Prince Harry and Paddington Bear, The Rest is b.llsh.t, list of recent videos on youtube, have some entertaining Andrew bits. As context, Spitting Image are getting sued for daring to present Paddington as an actual Peruvian bear who says things like "Ay caramaba" and enjoys the Peruvian nose-powder. Makes me go all "I'm a Barbie Girl, in a Barbie world...."

I misremembered: it is his dukedom that cannot be removed without Act of Parliament. Which is why he was persuaded to agree not to use the title, rather than be removed from it, which would require the embarrassment of formal acts rather than quiet acquiescence.

In relation to Prince, Wikipedia says that Letters Patent removing someone from office can only be issued if the office was granted by Letters Patent in the first place. Removal can alternatively happen by default if another person is appointed to that office, in effect as replacement. But neither seems to apply here. But this is wikipedia. So who to believe?

My prurience leads me to wonder how much money has he got left. He has that enormous house on long-term free lease, but the upkeep can't be cheap. And he has a taste for having servile staff he can order around so that he doesn't have to lift a finger. Can he still afford that? One suspects other expensive tastes too. He got some huge sum for his old house, in some rather smelly deal, which would normally be enough for most people to live the rest of their life in considerable luxury. But then he had to pay out a similarly huge sum to Giuffre. And his cohabitee Fergie has from time to time been wandering around with a begging bowl.

I think for many would like to see him reduced to the circumstances of a commoner, living in a small house, etc. 30-odd years ago, someone once told me that there was a duke who lived in a 3-bed semi or similar. I think that might have been the current Duke of St Albans, at least at some stage earlier in his life. His father the previous duke lost the family fortune by various failed ventures, and retired to France in disgrace. The current Duke qualified as a chartered accountant to earn a living. Maybe he had to live in a modest house earlier in his career.

Curiously, no one has bothered to remove the current Duke of Manchester from his title despite him serving several prison sentences for numerous counts of fraud, burglary, and the like.

I wonder how his daughters are reacting. It must be horrible, especially as their mum appears to be sticking by him.

She is also embarrassed by her interactions with Epstein. Perhaps she feels that she is already so disgraced she may as well take what material benefits remaining in his household gives her. Perhaps she also wants to keep an eye on what goes on there, perhaps to ensure that certain others, such as her children, are not at risk.

This (long) article about Epstein's numerous female enablers (Politico) raises somewhat similar questions.

It seems Charlie is having problems evicting Sweaty Andrew from the mansion he's been inhabitting rent free for the last 20 years. Can't he do what any other landlord would do ie wait until Sweaty Andrew and Sarah Fergusson have gone on one of their many holidays, then send the bailiffs in to pack their stuff in bin bags, dump them outside and change the locks?

Whilst the on-going rent is a peppercorn, he did pay up front to get that low rent, as is the case with many leasehold properties, especially longer term ones. The upfront sum was about £8m, though some of that went towards renovations.

So I think his landlord has left himself in a position of having very little legal pretense he could use to evict him prior to the end of the 75 year term. Of course if he was Henry VIII rather than Charles III, he could just get a bill of attainder passed on a charge of treason, and have his head chopped off. But that kind of thing went out with the Glorious Revolution.

If they kicked him out I understand they'd have to pay compensation.

But then I read somewhere that the market rent on such a place would be around £260k/yr. So 20 years x £260k = £5.2M against the £7.5M paid up front... i.e. we might expect the compensation to be around £2.5M. After which the Royal Fam and government can be truly distant from him (and Fergie, who still lives there too?!). That could be a worthwhile investment for the damage control.

Perhaps some legal weasel could discover a way in which he has broken the conditions of the tenancy and could therefore be evicted.

Is it an assured tenancy to which Schedule 2 of the Housing Act 1988 applies?

One of the first flats I rented as a student had a clause in the contract that said I musn't keep coal in the bath. This was late 80s.
