Fascists are jackdaws, using whatever suits their fancy to centralise power
I've nothing to comment about your post, but I was curious about the reference to jackdaws. I've never heard them referred to in that way. Why jackdaws?

Jackdaws go about collecting things, especially bright shiny things.

Ah, I was wondering what Jackdaws did to centralise power.

S&P down nearly 5% today.
And down another 4% so far today.

My consolation is that Tesla is doing even worse than the main indices.

The Tesla share price is still higher than it was for most of last year, until the market starting chortling over the prospect of Musk having influence in government and what that could do for Tesla. They have now discovered that is rather different from what they imagined, but seemingly aren't yet putting a negative value on it.

And Musk is still over 1.5 times as rich as Jeff Bezos in 2nd place.

Meanwhile, Musk has just sold Twitter for $45bn, $1bn more than he paid for it. He got $33bn cash for it, but the buyer took over $12bn in debt. The buyer is xAI, another company he founded. But that is described as a "public benefit corporation". So to the extent that he might have got an entity he effectively controls to overpay for it, I don't really understand enough about pbcs to know who might be suffering that potential loss. I've had a quick look at the wiki article on pbcs, but it didn't help. There are apparently calls for a regulatory investigation.

Musk sold Twitter to himself. So not at all.

I think that will change. When they find instant price rises and when they find that Musk has trashed services they rely on and their income (and the reddest counties have the largest proportion of household income from the government when you count employment and benefits)* and that many will find that their wives or girlfriends are considered DEI hires.

How exactly do you think that Trump can prevent elections? Elections are run by the states, and their dates are constitutionally mandated.

I think some of Trump's team would want to try, or at least try to fix the elections. But Trump's hobbyhorse (he's been pushing tariffs for 40 years) looks to offend (as in the usual sense, and also to harm) those middle-ranking and low-ranking people they'd need on the ground to implement such an attempt.

That Woke Constitution you mean, as written by George Soros? And some of these states, they're not real states ("Massachusetts" is such a ridiculous name, can't take it seriously). The Overton window will slowly shift to better view the new position of the goalposts.

Not sure if it's already been posted, but here's a very good (if long and quite dry) commentary on Trump's tariffs:Perun on U.S. Tariffs

Has Nazi "race-science" conquered the White House (Byline Times article), or is this scare-mongering by a liberal source with an axe to grind?

One where Betteridge's law obviously does not apply.

Perun is generally well worth following.

On the RFK Jr health front - they now have children turning up with measles that also show vitamin A toxicity as parents have heard from RFK about it and are dosing up their kids.

The stock markets just rallied a bit after there was a report that Trump was considering a 90 day pause.

The White house were very quick to let everyone know that wasn't supposed to happen.

And then that Trump was considering even more tariffs on China.

I’ve seen it suggested that this was because someone on Twitter with a paid-for blue tick and the surname Bloomberg posted it in all caps.

Can the Trumpites adjust the voting for Congress such that representatives are based on land area rather than population? Land is apparently much more important than people. And that'd lock in a large Republican majority in Congress.

Or shouldn't I put ideas in their head?
