For example, maybe saying you can only stand if you get signed support from a sufficiently large number of MPs that only, say, Sunak could achieve it.
No, doesn't work. Because the MPs are hopelessly split.
Even Sunak can't command a big enough voting block in round 1 to get past a large initial limit. He only got 24.6% in round 1 last time. Took till round 5 to get over 33.333%. Only ever had 42% at his peak.
The mad Boris bunch will get quite a high total. The mad Braverman bunch will get another chunk. Moribund fancies her chances. Badenoch will try. And someone from the list of narcissistic losers will try: Javid, Shapps, Zahawi, Tugendhat.
It's all very well saying "hey guys, let's all coalesce around one leading candidate" but nobody will listen. If you say "Got to have 25% support to make round one" then possibly even Sunak wouldn't make it, and almost certainly nobody else will. You can't coronationalise someone with only 25% support.
Either there's a runaway trend over the weekend towards Sunak, or it's back to being a f.cking mess. There's no sign of a runaway trend at the moment.
