One of the medal recipients said that the rank and file police officers assembled for the ceremony heckled him as he was being applauded.

The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol plans on Monday to vote on issuing criminal referrals against former President Donald J. Trump for insurrection and at least two other charges, according to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to discuss it.

No, not in UK yet. I VPN'ed US HBO. The whole movie concentrates on the wilder fringes of MAGAnuts buts includes a few just as scary antifa for what I assume is some sort of 'balance'. MAGAnuts are much scarier.

The special grand jury in Georgia has finished. There will be a hearing on 24th Jan to decide whether we get to find out what they decided. This jury didn't decide on charges, there will have to be a normal grand jury convened to do that, but apparently 20 people have been informed that they might be charged. It is not known whether Trump is one of them or not, but it does include Giuliani. I'm hoping it includes Trump.

They were the most wonderful grifters of the Trump era. It's refreshing to see such transparency in scams.

It was a family business (they are sisters). Per Wiki, their parents "sold purported weight loss cures and wreaths to ward off witchcraft. For a fee of $50, [their mother] wrote the names of customers in a Bible, telling customers that this would make God answer their prayers." They started off with BLM videos but were savvy enough to switch to Trump, plus the usual Covid deniersphere, Antifa conspiracy and Qanon. They ended up with a Newsmax show once the Trump gravy train dried up.

I think the world benefits from shamelessness. There will always be scams, so let them be obvious scams.

I like the way Brazil has already arrested 1,500 people for storming their Capitol.

Having lived over a year in both countries, I'm not sure I'd have predicted the order of whose justice system was more dysfunctional. When I arrived in Brazil the police were on strike because they hadn't been paid for months. It was like, "Welcome to Porto Alegre, do not go outside after dark."

In most countries a failed coup quickly results in arrests and often much worse. In the US, we encourage the perpetrators to run for office again, the old try try again thing. We have entire news networks to support them in achievement of their American dream.

I'd emigrate elsewhere but any country worth going to probably should reject my application just on principle.
