Things have moved on since this post, but just at the level of COVID in general, it seems to be that the incubation period may be less than we were told to expect back in March, when it seemed to be a mean of 5 days with outliers at 14 or maybe more. Many of the stories I've read seem to go along the lines of "We decided to risk an indoor restaurant table inside on Friday evening, and I woke up on Sunday with my head exploding". But perhaps speed of onset is related to severity of the case --- people with mild cases don't tend to be interviewed for news outlets.El Pollo Diablo wrote: Sat Oct 03, 2020 3:08 pm Anyway, I was going to say, CNN are now reporting that trump is having breathing difficulties. If that's true, it seems quite early in the timeline compared to average?

Mark Meadows on camera: everything's fine, Trump's doing well
Mark Meadows thinking he was off camera: the next 48 hours will be critical

Re: Trump has the virus
A 3rd one got it somewhere else, not at the Great Superspreader Show.
A 4th one said he tested positive, but then said he was confused and he was negative. Easy mistake.

It's such bad lying it's probably deliberately bad?
E.g. Dr Conley says in his memo that he misspoke when he said Regeneron was administered 48 hours ago, it was actually on Friday. But it wasn't him who said it. That was a different Dr.
And he misspelled Regeneron.

Their job is to to maintain communication between America's nuclear forces, and can remote control launch of Minuteman ICBMs. Almost certainly a signal to other powers that the president being ill doesn't mean they should be trying anything.

The one before where he said 'I think' was odder, he's never demonstrated anything other than absolute certainty in this life.

Also, you need 51 senators to be quorate. But one Dem has to be there to question whether the Senate is quorate.lpm wrote: Sat Oct 03, 2020 2:45 pm No.
It's currently 53-47. Assuming all Democrats can attend, it would need 6 Republicans to be dead/dying/hospitalised/quarantined/fled to Moscow, plus Pence as acting Pres. I think it's like the Speaker's Rule in the House of Commons - a motion for the Democrats to seize control of the Senate would need to win, not tie.
But the way they would do it would be to hold a vote for president pro tempore, defeat Grassley, and then set the timetables.

Re: Donald Trump's health
It is a good example of how lying ties you up in knots, especially when multiple people are required to sustain the untruth. I reckon it could be a teachable example of how grand conspiracies are bound to fall apart. One fairly simple thing, that you would absolutely expect a degree of spin around, the health of the president, becomes a tangled web of lies and half-truths. If they just stuck to telling the truth, even with a degree of spin, it would be so much easier. Also, they’ve witnessed Trump telling blatant lies and getting away with it for so long maybe they thought they could do the same!AMS wrote: Sat Oct 03, 2020 6:55 pmIt looks like there's a degree of panic to this. I've seen it pointed out that wish the shorter version of the timeline, they must have done all the paperwork to get Regeneron's experimental therapy, and got the drug to him, in the space of a few hours.Grumble wrote: Sat Oct 03, 2020 7:04 pmIt is a good example of how lying ties you up in knots, especially when multiple people are required to sustain the untruth. To be fair, you would expect there to be a plan of what to do for this fairly predictable circumstance worked out in advance, rather than having to improvise on the day.

Yerbut the secret service think he's a div
Secret Service agents expressed their anger and frustration to colleagues and friends Friday, saying that the president’s actions have repeatedly put them at risk. “He’s never cared about us,” one agent told a confidant, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the internal reaction.
