Banning trans books
The Reform-led Kent Council is banning trans-related books from the children's section. How this will play out is unclear yet. Possible dead cat scenario.

Re: Banning trans books
I read about this earlier this afteroon. Quick question, might be a tricky question: How many different trans books are actually on the kid's shelves at public libraries? My uneducated head tells me very few.

Of course it's the principle not the quantity but yes, I suspect there are very few and humane librarians will just pop them into the adult lgbt section with a trail of crumbs for anyone who wants themNero wrote: Fri Jul 04, 2025 3:32 pm I read about this earlier this afteroon. What's the position on George from the Famous Five?
In six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them. The human body was knocked up pretty late on the Friday afternoon, with a deadline looming. How well do you expect it to work?
Re: Banning trans books
It's all performative bollocks anyway, according to the Guardian.
Time for a big fat one.
Re: Banning trans books
Yep, it’s a nonsense story. Even the original BBC story can’t identify a book they’ve banned.
Anyway, that hasn’t stopped Robin Ince doing one of his poems. https://bsky.app/profile/robinince.bsky ... 6h3yjyps2s

It's so fascinating watching you try to mock people who support trans people, in a thread that should be about mocking Reform and anti trans bigots.Tristan wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 7:26 amYep, it’s a nonsense story. Even the original BBC story can’t identify a book they’ve banned.

Re: Banning trans books
It's a thread about a thing that isn't happening. It's performative nonsense from a couple of Reform councillors that hasn't actually lead to anything because they couldn't find anything to actually ban.Stephanie wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 8:08 amIt's so fascinating watching you try to mock people who support trans people, in a thread that should be about mocking Reform and anti trans bigots.Tristan wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 7:26 amYep, it’s a nonsense story. There is a very real chance Farage will be PM at the next elections, so seeing what Reform do with what little power they currently have, whether performative or not, is indicative of what they would do in government. Which would be frankly terrible for everyone, but especially for trans people.

So when you have people like Ince over react to it, it needlessly spreads fear, based on misinformation, in the LGBT+ community. It’s the same thing that JoMo does.
Anyway, I thought you lot would be interested in accuracy in reporting. Seems not.

What we're not interested in is your constant "sigh, the left are wrong again about..." bollocks, when mostly it's you missing the point.Tristan wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 3:37 pmWhat exactly have they done? Re: Banning trans books
This is unreal. Tristan, I've been trying not to engage with you because it really doesn't seem like you are interested in anything other than point scoring these days, but do you really not see the problem with people in political parties trying to ban books?

Exactly. The gammons won't bother to fact check, it will stoke their anti-trans views and make life harder for people.Gfamily wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 3:49 pmIf someone expresses a wish to do something, then it is reasonable to show concern.Tristan wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 3:37 pmWhat exactly have they done? Re: Banning trans books
The original version of the article didn’t really bother to fact check either. Robin didn’t bother to fact check. And I really don’t see how it helps anyone to spread fear about something that hasn’t happened.Tessa K wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 4:55 pmExactly. The updated version of the story is much better. They should have run this originally instead of scaremongering misinformation. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c6257p2vry3o

Re: Banning trans books
To be fair, Tristan has a point. Thankfully this is a nothing burger, though depressingly indicative of what will happen when Farridge becomes PM.
Mockery is probably a better response in this instance rather than concern. I'd advise keeping the concern for the things which Tristan's friends have been doing to trans people instead.

Re: Banning trans books
I'm just saying, I agree with you that this isn't something trans people need to be worried about (at least, not yet), when the people you support - Lewis, Joyce, Rowling et al - are quite successfully doing so much more damage to their lives in the courts instead. That's where the fear really should be

Re: Banning trans books
The small and the big things combine to make life unpleasant and hostile for trans people, such as one person seeing a trans book at the entrance of the library, and deciding that was so objectionable they had to do something about it, that resulted in the book no longer being part of the display there.
That Reform did their Trump-esque "We're banning woke" b.llsh.t says something about where we are politically, where councillors think it's acceptable to gloat about this stuff.
It makes me sad that it's this ugly.

Re: Banning trans books
Reform are c.nts, and when tell you what they want to do, believe them. They may be incompetent buffoons, but they are still c.nts. They have clearly stated their intention to be cruel to the disabled and the different by firing “DEI” council staff and said that dealing with climate change is a waste of resources. If they get into government, expect them to carry all of that out on a national scale, along with being cruel to trans people, and the gays and the foreigners and anyone else they can demonise. “Performative” it may be at the moment, but it will be very real and Farage will do his best to emulate Trump.

Re: Banning trans books
Worse is that they've spread the lie that there are 'trans books' in the children's library. It's not a f.cking 'gotcha' that there weren't actually any such books, the c.nts at Reform have put that in the heads of their dumb and dumber followers.Stephanie wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 6:31 pm The small and the big things combine to make life unpleasant and hostile for trans people, such as one person seeing a trans book at the entrance of the library, and deciding that was so objectionable they had to do something about it, that resulted in the book no longer being part of the display there.

And any c.nt who thinks it's a 'gotcha' can still be validly seen as a Reform enabling c.nt.

It’s not a gotcha. It was shoddy reporting and amplification of that in a scaremongering way. There is now better reporting on what actually happened. It doesn’t help anyone to spread nonsense.Gfamily wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 7:44 pmWorse is that they've spread the lie that there are 'trans books' in the children's library.
